Denis Krude

President & CEO

Denis Krude is responsible for the overall direction and performance of Isowater®, a leading global supplier of deuterium oxide (D2O) to the life sciences, high technology and environmental science sectors. He applies over two decades of executive-level experience in engineering and technology businesses to the role. Denis has a proven track record of driving innovation, navigating complex challenges, and delivering results that exceed expectations. He brings more than 25 years of experience heading multicultural and cross-functional teams across multiple locations worldwide, emphasizing performance and leadership values. Denis has led numerous international large-scale plant engineering and EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) projects in various functions, with expertise that spans the entire plant engineering value chain: business development, sales, product management, engineering, project execution and after-sales service. Before joining Isowater®, Denis served as CEO and a Member of the Executive Board at a leading technology and plant engineering company in Germany that specializes in electrolysis and green hydrogen. Denis, a German national, holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from RWTH Aachen University.

Markus Richter

Chief Financial Officer

Markus Richter leads the development and implementation of Isowater’s financial operations and strategy. He is responsible for the company’s financial planning and reporting, and leads its equity and debt financing initiatives. Markus is an international finance expert with senior-level experience at a number of companies, including one where he served as Head of Structured Finance for Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. He is a global debt and equity expert with a proven record in equity, buyer’s credits, working capital and other financing. His experience includes the development of start-ups in renewable and non-renewable power generation and process technologies, as well as supply chain finance, mergers and acquisitions, and project development.

Lorraine Mickiewicz

Chief Operating Officer

Lorraine Mickiewicz heads Isowater’s human resources function, oversees corporate governance, and has a leadership role in business operations and finance. Her operations role includes logistics and regulatory approvals for the deuterium oxide sold by Isowater to customers around the world. Prior to joining the company, Lorraine gained customer sales and service experience at a leading insurance provider.

Edward Stuart

Chief Technology Officer

Edward Stuart leads Isowater’s technology development and commercialization programs. This includes the advancement of the company’s capabilities in deuterium oxide (D2O) enrichment and the production of market grade D2O from natural water. He also plays an active role in the development and commercialization of related water electrolysis technology used in the co-production of green hydrogen and deuterium oxide. Edward’s responsibilities at Isowater have progressed over the past decade, starting on the warehouse floor preparing product and advancing through various technical and commercial roles. He is the fourth-generation Stuart family member to continue the family’s legacy in heavy water and green hydrogen production technologies. The Stuart legacy dates back to the 1930s, when Edward’s great-grandfather built some of the first heavy water plants in North America, and has continued through many notable achievements in this field. Edward is active outside the company as its representative to the Organization of Canadian Nuclear Industries. Edward studied Chemical Engineering at Dalhousie University, where he served as President of the Dalhousie Diploma of Engineering Society.


Sales & Business Development

A. James Farmilo, B.Sc. (Hons.), M.Sc., Ph.D.

Vice President

Dr. James Farmilo is a scientist and team leader at Isowater whose main focus is advancing Isowater’s capabilities in deuterium oxide (D2O) enrichment and the production of market grade D2O from natural water. He is also active in business development. A skilled inventor and creative thinker, Dr. Farmilo began his career in the development and commercialization of advanced technologies in 1975. He has started, developed and sold numerous businesses in the medical research and medical diagnostic fields. He sold one of these businesses to another company, which he joined in 1994 and was responsible for its global business activities in microbiology, clinical immunochemistry and OEM. He also led R&D teams, creating alliances with major drug and diagnostic companies to develop and bring new products to market. Dr. Farmilo holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Math and Physics from the University of Alberta, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto.

Steve Bovair

Sales Manager

Steve Bovair leads Isowater’s sales team. He applies extensive experience in the supply and shipment of deuterium oxide to support his global customers’ success. Steve serves customers in semiconductor fabrication and other advanced technologies to meet their exacting specifications. Before joining Isowater®, he worked for 25 years in the information technology industry in technical sales and product management. Steve also operated his own business for several years. 

Daniel Mateos

Regional Director of Business Development, Europe

Daniel Mateos is responsible for business development at Isowater® in Europe. In this role he cultivates customer relationships and supports sales opportunity generation in the European market for the company’s deuterium oxide offerings. With over 20 years of international experience in clean energy and green hydrogen technology and engineering, as well as industrial gases, Daniel’s capabilities are directly applicable to his work at Hydrogen Optimized®. As a specialist in business development, sales and project implementation, he has contributed significantly to the development of new business opportunities and products in the chemical and oil and gas industries. Previously, Daniel has worked at a major industrial gas company in Europe in a variety of management roles, leading business development for green hydrogen and clean energy projects. He also worked at German and Spanish companies involved in the development and engineering of plants for the oil, gas and chemical industries. He holds several patents in these fields. Daniel earned a degree in Engineering (Dipl. Ing.) from UPM Madrid in Spain, and a Specialization in Master Senior Process and Chemical Engineering at RWTH Aachen University in Germany. He is fluent in German, English and Spanish.

Dr. Pavel Gris, PhD, FRSC, C. Chem

Chief Scientist

Dr. Gris leads Isowater’s scientific and analytic activities, focusing mainly on the advancement of the company’s deuterium oxide (D2O) refinery, which upgrades D2O that has been used in industrial processes to market-level purity. He is also involved in advancing technology used to enrich deuterium oxide from ambient concentrations found in natural water. More specifically, Dr. Gris studies the deuterium isotope kinetic effect to enhance the deuterium oxide enrichment process. Dr. Gris joined Isowater in 2018 after a career in academia where he gained extensive experience in a broad range of sciences, research and university-level teaching at Western University, Concordia University, McGill University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a Ph.D. at Western University in London, Canada, and has completed consecutive post-doctoral appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and McGill University in Montreal. Dr. Gris is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Chartered Chemist in the Province of Ontario.
