Isowater believes strongly in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and is committed to giving back to organizations and schools promoting STEM in the community. Through the Isowater Community STEM Awards, students are recognized for their excellence in science, technology, engineering, and math; each of the various sections composing STEM. Not only are students recognized in local schools, but also in other places such as the Simcoe County Regional Science Fair held each year in Barrie, Ontario. Employers, such as Isowater benefit from the preparation and skills that are developed by students that have learned the various components of STEM.
What is STEM?
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math and is a term that is used commonly to group the four disciplines of academics. The term STEM simultaneously refers to the use of these disciplines in real-life situations, presented in a classroom environment. By connecting these subjects to real-world situations, it allows students to build strong application connections to what they are learning, something they may not have understood if the application component was not presented.
The driving ideology behind STEM is to prepare students for the fast-changing world where technology has already begun to play an increasingly important role every day in every job. While participating in STEM subjects, students build important skills such as problem solving, creativity, analytical thinking, and other both beneficial and competitive skills.
The education and skills gained by students participating in STEM subjects not only prepares them for higher education, but also helps them become better equipped for the future workplace.
