CNL Partnership Supports Isowater in Meeting Global Customers’ Deuterium Needs

May 7, 2025: Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) today announced that it has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Isowater. The partnership has been established to support the growth of Isowater’s deuterium oxide (heavy water) refinement business by offering expertise in hydrogen isotope separation and related technologies. This arrangement leverages Atomic Energy of Canada Limited’s (AECL) extensive intellectual property related to the refining of deuterium oxide.

The partnership is intended to help Isowater better serve non-nuclear deuterium markets such as semiconductor manufacturing through the provision of deuterium production and recycling services, and a higher-purity end-product.

This agreement represents the next phase of the close relationship between Isowater, CNL and AECL that has developed over the past decade. Our collaboration has been an important enabler of the more than 10% compound annual growth rate in deuterium oxide use by the global high technology and life sciences industries.

By partnering with CNL, Canada’s premier science and technology laboratory, Isowater gains better access to their world-class technology and expertise. This will support the path to global success of our organization.
